This month, get to know N Street Village volunteer, Heather Henderson. Heather began volunteering with N Street Village in September 2012. Since that time, Heather has been a regular volunteer in our Day Center preparing and serving weekend meals and a Miriam’s House Bingo caller. Let’s get to know Heather…
I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and attended college at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. I later attended the University of Oregon School of Law where I received my J.D. in 2007. Currently, I work as an attorney with the federal government in Falls Church, VA. While living in the Logan Circle neighborhood. I became involved with N Street Village because of my passion for working with organizations that provide services for women in need. In addition to N Street Village, I also volunteer with the Maryland State Bar Storybook Project, Byte Back and the DC Abortion Fund.
What is your favorite D.C. restaurant? Rice in Logan Circle
Where is the last place you travelled to? Houston, TX
On a Saturday evening you will find me…in bed reading a book on my Kindle.
Who is one of your favorite musicians? Sade
What was the last movie you watched (and enjoyed)? The Descendants
Why did you start volunteering at N Street Village? I started volunteering at N Street Village because I wanted to work with an organization that assists women in need. In addition, I liked the fact that N Street Village provides comprehensive services to women to help them get back on their feet.
Share one of your favorite N Street Village memories? One of my favorite N Street Village memories was the time I volunteered to work on the community garden. It was great to work outdoors (weeding and planting fruits and vegetables) and meeting so many of the other community members that enjoy volunteering at N Street Village.
What has been one of your biggest surprises about N Street Village? One of the biggest surprises about N Street Village is the number of women that they are able to serve and the number of different services they offer the women.
