A Walk Captain Story: Carlita

IMG_7270Last year, former N Street Village client and current volunteer Carlita had just had leg surgery so she wasn’t able to join the more than 200 walkers. That’s why she can’t wait for this year’s walk. It’ll be her fifth walk as part of the N Street Village community.

Carlita first came to N Street Village in 2007. As a resident of our Luther Place Night Shelter, she set two goals for herself: find housing and help others. Thanks to the support of the Village staff, Carlita has her own apartment. And she’s succeeding at her second goal as well. Not only is she a veteran participant in the community walks but she’s also a weekly volunteer in our in-kind office.

For Carlita, the Community Walk provides encouragement, strength, and hope for the women of N Street Village. Whether you join us for the Community Walk or walk virtually, you’ll stand with women like Carlita who believe in giving back to others.

Every person who joins our team, even if you cannot attend the Walk on October 19, will count towards our walker goal.  Adult walkers can register for $30 and youth walkers (25 and younger) can register for $20. If we reach our goal, the additional $20,000 N Street Village receives will allow us to provide housing and supportive services for women just like Carlita.  Join our team today!
