Expansion of HIV/AIDS Services at N Street Village

I am pleased to announce that N Street Village has incorporated Miriam’s House, a residential community for homeless women living with HIV and AIDS in Northwest D.C., into our portfolio of programs. Our merger unites two organizations with a shared mission – to ensure that homeless and low-income women in our city have access to a safe, supportive community and the tools they need to achieve personal stability and well-being.

We have been working diligently with our Board and Miriam’s House’s Board and staff for months to ensure that this process both aligned with our shared values of hospitality, compassion, and community and resulted in a seamless transition for the people who matter most: the vulnerable women we serve.

With this merger, Miriam’s House becomes a wholly owned program of N Street Village. The combined organization will continue to be called N Street Village, and N Street Village’s executive leadership remains unchanged. Miriam’s House will continue to be the name of the residential program, and many of Miriam’s House’s staff members are being absorbed by N Street Village.

What does this mean for N Street Village?

  • Expanded housing opportunities for vulnerable women: We will now be able to provide housing with supportive services to 20 more vulnerable women at one time through this second site. No current Miriam’s House residents will be displaced by the merger, and it will remain a program targeted to serve women who are homeless and are HIV+.
  • Increased focus on HIV/AIDS services: We will expand our prevention and wellness programs for homeless and low-income women living with or at-risk of HIV/AIDS – impacting not only the 10% of our clients who report an HIV+ status but also the rest of our clients who are at risk.
  • Improved organizational sustainability: By coming together, we have diversified our revenue sources, increased our assets, and leveraged our management costs – ensuring that we will continue to be a strong organization for years to come.
  • Greater mission impact: By streamlining our operations, we are ensuring that our supporters’ investment in us will be put to best use – to improve and expand the housing, employment and health services that we provide to our clients.

For more information, please view our press release announcing the merger and I invite you to watch our announcement video.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.  As our Village grows, your continued strong support is vital to us and to the women we serve.
